PPV villages enforce 5-year ban on hunting

The villages of Phungchan, Paorei and Varangalai (PPV) have unanimously decided to impose a total ban on the hunting of wild birds and animals within the jurisdiction of Yangreiram Leiha for a period of five years with immediate effect.
According to Sorin Khaleng, secretary of PPV, the decision was taken after intensive consultations with concerned stakeholders from all villages.
The move aims to restore and increase the population of wild animals in the region by prohibiting hunting activities until August 2030 .
The ban order strictly prohibits individuals from carrying weapons with the intention of hunting while foraging in the forested area of Yangreiram region.
Anyone found violating the order will face a fine of Rs 10,000 as a penalty.
Furthermore, copies of the ban order have been issued to eight neighbouring villages of Ukhrul/Hunphun, Halang, Talui, Hoomi, Peh, Lunghar, Loree Kajui and Kalhang for strict adherence.
