Imphal, October 17 2026:
A one-day seminar on crime against women, POSH Act, NRC and Delimitation organised by Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) was held today at Amity Hall of Adimjati Shiksha Ashram, Chingmeirong.
President of Adimjati Shiksha Ashram and former Minister D Korungthang Maring, MSCST Chairperson T Mathieu Rongmei, Commission member Shetlengam Sankhil and Ashram member Sandhya Joshi attended as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, D Korungthang said Manipur is full of issues and the recent incidents and NRC update are not simple matters.
Resolving such issues and the future of Manipur will be decided by youths, he added.
Recalling the tribal dormitory system, he said the Maring community had 'Rakhang' system where elders guided youths on conduct and punishment was given for violation.
With abandonment of the system except in a few communities, immorality among boys and girls has increased, he said and urged youths to be careful.
Assistant Director of Manipur Police Training College Victoria Yengkhom and community leader Ngachonmi Chamroy spoke as resource persons.
