WAMA to observe 35th anniversary of Manipuri language's inclusion in 8th Schedule

Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak will observe the 35th anniversary of Manipuri Language's inclusion in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution at GP Women's College, Dhanamanjuri University on August 20 .
The programme was earlier scheduled at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, but has been shifted to GP Women's College due to the large number of participants expected, WAMA president Moirangthem Naokhamba Meetei informed media persons at Manipur Press Club today.
He said the event will begin at 10 am.
Since Manipuri was included in the 8th Schedule, teaching of the language from Class 1 and 2 has started and today students are even pursuing PhD in Meitei Mayek.
Many students also receive awards for writing in Manipuri every year.
As part of the observance, five scholars will be honoured with the "Ema Longi Athoiba Mana" .
The recipients are: Yuileila Teresa Keishing of Poiroutongba village, Kangpokpi; Makunga Notang Maring of Heinoukhong village, Tengnoupal for thesis on "Maring-gi Pokpa, Luhongba Amasung Sibagi Thouram"; Maringmei Gairillu of Hiyangthang Kabui Khul for thesis on "Kabui-gi Harao Kumhei Amadi Fijet Leiteng"; Mangte Rimthang Kom of Kakching Mantak village for thesis on "Kom-gi Khunung Esei Neinaba"; and Soringla Kashung of Singkap village, Ukhrul for thesis on "Tangkhul-gi Naat-ki Potlam Cheiram Singh Neinaba" written in Meitei Mayek script.
The event will also feature a poetry recitation on "Hingkhisi Eikhoi Ema Leibakki Damak".
Consolation prizes will be given along with regular awards, and all participants in poetry writing and recitation will receive Rs 200 each.
