AMSU Jiribam observes 46th Realisation Day in solemn ceremony

Jiribam, April 17 2026: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), District Committee, Jiribam, observed the 46th Realisation Day at its office conference hall in Babupara with a solemn and subdued programme.

The day, also known as Meekap Thokpa Numit, is observed annually to honour the sacrifices of two student martyrs - late Huidrom Lokendro and Potshangbam Premananda - who lost their lives during the "Go Back Foreigners" movement in 1980.The observance began with the hoisting of the AMSU flag by AMSU District Committee, Jiribam, president Chinglemba Nameirakpam, followed by a two-minute silence and floral tributes to the portraits of the departed students.

Addressing the function, Chinglemba Nameirakpam stated that due to the prevailing situation in the state, this year's observance could not be held on a grand scale.

Instead, the programme was limited to simple rituals, including the flag hoisting and tribute ceremony.

He recalled that during the 1980 movement against the influx of illegal immigrants, the two students sacrificed their lives.

He remarked that their sacrifice should continue to serve as a reminder and questioned whether society today remains vigilant to the issues they stood against.

The programme concluded with participants raising slogans such as "Go Back Foreigners", "Long Live AMSU", "Long Live Manipur," reaffirming their commitment to the ideals upheld by the organisation.
