GP Women's College celebrates 61st foundation day

Imphal, February 17 2026: Commemorating sixty-one years since its establishment, GP Women's College, Imphal celebrated its 61st foundation day today.

The ceremony was accompanied by the felicitation of college and subject toppers.

Held at the Central Hall of the College, the event was graced by Professor W Chandbabu Singh, Vice Chancellor, Dhanamanjuri University as the chief guest; H Dev Shekhar Sharma, IAS retired, chairman, Dwijamani Dev Sharma Memorial Trust, Imphal as the special guest; Professor L Rajen Singh, Principal, GP Women's College as the president and Dr M Bidyasagar Singh, HOD, Physics Department, GP Women's College as the guest of honour.

As a mark of honour, the gathering offered floral tributes before the photos of College founder "Ima Ghanapriya" and her son H Dwijamani Dev Sharma.

Speaking as the chief guest, Professor W Chandbabu said GP Women's College is one of the most well-known women's colleges in the State.

Stating that many alumni of the College have gone on to become notable personalities in different fields, he expressed hope this trend will continue in the future.

He also noted that appeals have been made to the concerned authority to meet infrastructural requirements, increased funding and plug other shortages at DMU and GP Women's College.

He further hailed GP Women's College for being one of the earliest colleges exclusively providing high quality education to women of the State.

Meanwhile, Principal Professor L Rajen Singh appealed the teachers to work together for the development of the College.

As a part of the event, cash awards and citations were presented to the College topper and subject toppers of academic session 2025 .
