Motivational camp kicks off

Bishnupur, January 17 2026: A three-day motivational camp for volunteers set to participate in the Asian Waterbirds Census of Loktak and other wetlands of Manipur was kicked off today at the auditorium of Loktak Inland Water Transport Complex, Sendra.

The camp was organised by the Forest Department in collaboration with the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Loktak Development Authority and Indian Bird Conservation Network.

Around 250 volunteers were present today.

The Asian Waterbirds Census is set to be conducted on January 21 and 22.Addressing the gathering, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) L Joykumar maintained that the disappearance of humanity from the face of the earth will not affect the environment negatively.

But human beings will deeply feel the impact if all wildlife, flora and fauna were to disappear from the world.

He pushed for protection of migratory birds which feed and roost in the wetlands of Manipur during winter season.

Saying that the Asian Waterbirds Census will be a source of valuable data and information for posterity, he urged the volunteers to make dedicated efforts to note accurate data.

According to RK Birjit, State Co-ordinator, AWBC, the upcoming census will be more intensive than previous ones.

It will be carried out across 85 spots, including 50 in Loktak with a significant increase in the number of volunteers.

Notable dignitaries present include Technical Committee State Wetland Authority Chairman Kh Samungou, Chief Conservator of Forest L Joykumar, Programme Officer Directorate of Climate Change Dr Md Habibulah Khan, LDA Director Ng Sanajaoba, Kumbi College retd Principal K Jugeshwor and Asian Waterbirds Census State Co-ordinator RK Birjit as the presidium members.
