A 2-Day Festival of Narrative Art organised by Manipur State Shumang Leela Council began today at Iboyaima ShumangLeela Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal.
The inaugural function was graced by K Radhakumar Singh, retired Commissioner (Art & Culture), Manipur; L Tomba Singh, president, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council; and L Brajamohon SInghSingh, director, Rupmahal Theatre as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, K Radhakumar expressed concern over the present state of traditional art forms in Manipur.
He asserted that many traditional art forms such as Wari Leeba, Lairik Theeba Haiba, Khongjom Parva and Khubak Eshei are facing potential extinction due to a combination of neglect, lack of awareness, passing of senior artists, and the impact of recent conflict.
K Radhakumar further called for collective effort to safeguard, preserve and promote the art forms left behind by ancestors.
The first day of the festival was marked by Wari Leeba, Lairik Theeba Haiba and Khubak Eshei performances by various artists.
