Imphal, August 16 2024:
While announcing punishment for 28 people involved in organising a rock concert inappropriately on Patriots' Day on August 13, the Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has appealed to other organisations not to summon any of the 28 penalised people.
Among the 28 punished by the UNLF include organisers and helpers of the event and members of the rock bands involved.
Before announcing the mode of punishment, all the 28 people were paraded before media persons somewhere in Imphal, wherein UNLF's Department of Publicity staff officer L Keiphaba reminded that August 13 is an epochal day in the history of Manipur.
On this day in 1891, Yuvraj Tikendrajit and Thangal General were hanged till death before the public at Pheidapung.
From the year 1969, UNLF had been commemorating the day as Patriots' Day by offering floral tributes to the bravehearts of the land.
On this day this year, All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) organised a music concert at Astro turf ground at Khuman Lampak.
The music concert, however, was unrelated with heroes of the land and organised in a very inappropriate manner thereby undermining sanctity of the day, Keiphaba said.
According to the staff officer, the UNLF in consultation with public have decided to impose some restrictions against officials of AMFA involved in organising the music concert, music bands involved namely Innocent Eyes, Leipung Band, Pebet Band and God and Dog Band as well as co-sponsor MAMI TV.
He said that Innocent Eyes and Leipung Band will be banned for six months effective from August 13, 2024 and one year ban against Pebet Band and God and Dog Band (August 13, 2024 to August 13, 2025) for their excessive conducts.
During the ban period, there will be no restriction on song tune, practice and rehearsal, L Keiphaba said, adding that co-sponsor MAMI TV will be disallowed to broadcast entertainment programmes for six months effective from August 13, 2024 though it may air news related programmes.
Regarding officials of AMFA involved in organising the event, L Keiphaba said that those directly involved have to resign from their respective posts and elect new officials to fill up the vacant posts.
Anyone found violating the restrictions will be dealt with suitably, he cautioned and appealed to other organisations not to call up and award punishment to any of the 28 people against whom the outfit had initiated punitive action in the interest of people.
