Nongpoknganbi VLF marks foundation day, stresses self-reliance through SHGs

Jiribam, July 16 2026: The Nongpoknganbi Village Level Federation (VLF), Hilghat Gram Panchayat, Jiribam, promoted by the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM),celebratedits Foundation Day along with its third General Body Meeting at Thiyam Mandap, Hilghat, on Thursday.

The programme was attended by former Zilla Parishad member of Hilghat GP Kh Janaki Devi, Nongpoknganbi VLF president Ph Onima Devi, Hilghat GP Administrative Committee chairman L Samarendra Singh, Jiribam CD Block BDO T Gyaneshor Singh, MSRLM Jiribam DC-FI in-charge W Pramojit Singh, MSRLM BC (Farm and Livestock) Kamajit Th, CLF Jiribam president K Kunjamani Devi, MSCB Ltd Jiribam Branch manager Longjam Bubu and Hilghat ward member Th Shantibala Devi.

The dignitaries were honoured with traditional Lengyan by the organisers before the ceremonial lamp was lit to mark the opening of the function.

Members of several Self Help Groups (SHGs), including Leimarembi Development SHG, Ima SHG, Chinglembi SHG, Jiri Leirnai SHG, Sinthangambi SHG, Lingjelthoibi SHG, Sinthoibi SHG, Imoinu SHG and Sintha SHG.

Addressing the gathering, former Zilla Parishad member Kh Janaki Devi said Jiribam has immense potential for agriculture and allied sectors, but many essential products are still imported from outside the district.

She urged SHGs to adopt a strong work culture, work collectively and focus on activities such as fisheries, organic farming and fruit cultivation to achieve self-reliance and promote locally produced goods.

VLF president Ph Onima Devi said the federation has constituted 15-member farmer and non-farmer groups, adding that merely forming groups would serve little purpose unless members actively engage in productive activities.

She encouraged SHG members to take ownership of their responsibilities, utilise the support of MSRLM and line departments, and work together to strengthen livelihoods and contribute to the overall development of the State.
