Shankara Jayanti Mahotsav begins

The 2535th Shankara Jayanti Mahotsav, organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Manipur, began yesterday at Ramji Prabhu Temple near Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri, Imphal.
The festival will run for a week till April 21.The inaugural function of the 'Vishwa Shanti Maha Yagna' was attended by VHP Manipur convenor and ISKCON Manipur general secretary RK Dusahari Gopal.
He said the Mahotsav was inaugurated by Vijayendra Saraswati Shankaracharya Swami and accompanying Swamis through puja ceremonies.
A 'Vishwa Shanti Yagna' with various rituals will be performed for seven days as part of the Jayanti.
RK Dusahari noted that many parts of the world are facing conflicts, and the earth is currently in an astrological period from April 3 to April 18 that brings difficulties.
The Yagna, he said, is being performed to pray for global stability amid a critical period with potential for war, not only in Manipur but worldwide.
A book titled "Shri Shankara Stotra Mani Mala" will also be released during the event.
