Two abducted, one dies in thrashing

Unidentified miscreants abducted two youths from an area in Lilong on Tuesday with one thrashed to death and the other admitted to Raj Medicity, Imphal for treatment injuries suffered in severe beating.
The deceased youth has been identified as Md Jahir Khan alias Atomba (23) and the injured as Md Farid alias Boicha (20) son of Md Hafijuddin, both of Keibung Mathak Leikai.
According to police, doctors on duty at Thoubal district hospital declared Md Jahir Khan as brought dead while referring Md Farid to Raj Medicity due to serious nature of injury.
Meanwhile, a public meeting held Wednesday at Keibung community hall in connection with the killing/thrashing formed a joint action committee (JAC) and adopted several resolutions.
Speaking to media persons, JAC convenor Sahid Khan informed that Md Jahir along with his friend Farid left their homes around 5 pm Tuesday after he (Jahir) was called by one Bogimayum Abema, daughter of Md Fakar of Lilong Awang Leikai to talk about Raziya of Sora, who had eloped with Jahir.
After reaching Lilong Awang Leikai, unidentified miscreants who came in a four-wheeler car abducted the duo, in what is suspected to be pre-planned.
The unidentified miscreants contacted the abducted persons' family members around 8pm with both sides deciding to iron out the issue on Wednesday morning.
However, the family members received reports of the death of Md Jahir and injuries suffered by Md Farid Khan at 3 am, the convenor recalled.
Several resolutions were adopted during the meeting including demand for arrest and stringent punishment of all involved in the killing of Md Jahir Khan, urge authority concerned to ensure the best treatment to Md Farid alias Boycha.
Cautioning that local CSOs, clubs, organisations and mei-ra paibis will launch intense agitation in case authorities fail to honour their demand within 48 hours, Sahid Khan informed that a memorandum will also be submitted to the chief minister and the local MLA.
