Imphal, February 15 2026:
In continuation of their ongoing effort to preserve and uphold traditional customs, Enat Yokkhatpa Luptin, Manipur (EYOL) organised the "Wangoi AC Apunba Meepham" at Wangoi Sanamahi Laibung Lampak today.
During the meeting, residents of Wangoi Assembly Constituency and the EYOL Wangoi A/C Sub-committee unanimously adopted a series of strict resolutions aimed at preserving indigenous Meitei culture and banning non-traditional practices in the region.
The meeting focused on countering external cultural influences and reinforcing traditional customs within the 15 villages of Wangoi AC.
The meeting passed resolutions to curb lavish wedding practices, including bans on cake-cutting, modem gift exchanges, and ribboncutting at wedding halls; excessive spending on attire, jewelry, and photography/videography.
Photographers and videographers must wear traditional pheijom and pungyat.
The use of sound amplifiers, bombs, and postwedding sightseeing trips are also banned.
Participants pledged to enforce EYOL's August 10, 2024, conference resolutions and support its cultural regeneration movement across Wangoi AC's 15 villages.
Local clubs, Meira Paibi, Temple committees, and other local organisations have been tasked with enforcing these new guidelines.
The meeting also resolved to form a new committee with representatives from these groups to work with the EYOL Sub-committee, ensuring traditional norms are followed and younger folks are clued in on preserving culture.
