Imphal, February 15, 2010: AR troops have slain a suspected UG cadre in a reported encounter near Chelep village in Chandel district this morning.

A press release issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S) said that on discovering presence of UG cadres in Laipham area, troops of 29 AR launched operation in the area.

The troops observed some suspicious movement at around 6.10 am.

One being challenged, the UG cadres opened fire towards the troops who retaliated immediately.

In the ensuing fire-fight, one UG cadre was eliminated.

Further, a police source said the reported encounter took place near Chelep village, located North of Tengnoupal police station.

One M-16 rifle with magazine, six live rounds, two Chinese hand grenades which were destroyed in situ and Rs 400 were recovered from the slain UG cadre.

Following hand over by Assam Rifles, police have deposited the corpse in RIMS mortuary.
