Govt flayed for imposing curfew

Imphal, May 14 2015 : A number of civil societies in Manipur have flayed the government for clamping curfew in the state.

Killing of innocent labourers and the failure of the government to book the culprits are not in the interest of the people.

This was stated by the representatives of COHR, MSF and PSO in a press conference held at the office of MSF, Keishamthong Top Leirak on Thursday.

The accused cadres of KRF who killed the two labourers Moirangthem Dayanand aged 20 and Maibam Premananda aged 21 and brutally assaulted a 12 years old student should be given severe punishment under the law of the land.

The public outcry should not be suppressed by imposing curfew.

Phulindro Konsam chairman of Committee of Human Rights, Manipur, Siraj Udin president of Manipur Students Union and Th Udoy Luwang Advisor of Pangal students organisation addressed the press conference.

The speakers said that clamping of curfew is a stunning blow to daily wage earners.

The government should take responsibility for the killings of the two labourers.

It is the negligence of the government which encouraged the militant groups under suspension of operation to continue their ugly act of committing various crimes.

It is also the result of giving a free hand to the cadres which are signatories to the SoO.

They commit various crimes without fear of being accountable.

The students' organisations and human rights associations blame on the government for not taking up stringent measures to prevent crimes committed by the cadres of militant groups under SOO from time to time.

The press conference also demanded arrest of the main accused and all those involved.

Arresting few cadres of KRF under SOO should not be the solution but appropriate punishment against the murderers is needed.

The press conference also dwelt on the recent cases at Gwalatabi and Pallel and condemned the communal angle of the incidents including the killing of two labourers.

These crimes are against the international humanitarian law.

Terming the incident as a ploy to disrupt the communal harmony by some miscreants the meet also appealed to the public to stay alert.
