Gun salute marks observance of Patriots' Day at Mayangkhang

Senapati, August 13 2024: Traditional gun salute and floral tributes marked the observance of Patriots' Day organised by Thangal Union along with United Naga Council at Thangal General Park in Mayangkhang on Tuesday.

The observance was attended by Water Resources, Relief & Disaster Management minister Awangbow Newmai as chief guest, MLA Leishiyo Keishing, UNC president Ng Lorho and NPO president Kuba Peter as guests of honour, Naga Women's Union president Ch Priscilla Thiumai and Maram Thangal Council president A John as special guests, and Thangal Union president RK Philip as functional president.

In his presentation, Thangal Union general secretary M Khangba stated that patriotism became a part of the Thangal identity when the forefathers took on the mighty British.

The two prominent and brave sons of Thangal hills, whose names evoked a sense of unyielding patriotism and indomitable spirit in the annals of Manipur history, Lungthoubu Thangal (popularly known as General Thangal) and Charai Thangal laid down their lives for the cause of motherland.

They were hanged to death on August 13, 1891 and October 13, 1891 respectively.

In his address, minister Awangbow stated that even though the British put an end to their lives and tried to obliterate their memory from the mind of the people, their spirit and deeds live on.

They are still alive and they are among the people, he said.

Leaders of CSOs including UNC, ANSAM, NWU, tribe hohos and student leaders apart from representatives of Thangal tribe attended the programme.

Later, folksong competition of Thangal community was held as a part of the observance.

Remembering the martyrdom of Yubraj Bir Tikendrajit Singh and Thangal General, Senapati district administration also observed 133rd Patriots' Day at DRDA conference hall, Senapati on Tuesday.

Senapati deputy commissioner Mamoni Doley and SP Anupam led the gathering in lighting candle and paying floral tributes to the portraits of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General in honour of their bravery and sacrifices against British Empire during the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.The programme was also attended by DFO Shanngam S, Senapati ADM Nimmi Azingwungshi Khamarang, Mao ADM Ningreingam Leisan, Senapati ADC CEO Adahrii Maheo, Senapati SDO Luguiba Thangal, and SDOs, ADSPs, SDCs and DLOs.

NONEY: Patriots' Day was observed by the district administration at DC s office complex on Tuesday with offering of rich floral tributes to the photos of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General.

The programme was attended by students, police and district level officers.

UKHRUL: Joining the rest of the state, Kamjong district administration on Tuesday observed the Patriots' Day at the Camp Office of DC, Kamjong located inside the 2nd MR Complex, Imphal in remembrance of the heroes of Manipur, who were killed in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 .

Kamjong DC Rangnamei Rang Peter led in lighting the ceremonial lamp and offering floral tributes to the portraits of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General.

A one-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the great souls.

The observance was attended by Kamjong SP Ningshen Vashum, SDOs, DLOs and other officials and staff of the district administration.

The Day was also observed at several places within the four sub-divisions of Kamjong district.

THOUBAL: District administration, Thoubal observed the 133rd Patriots' Day at the counting hall of DC Complex, Thoubal in the presence of Thoubal DC A Subhash Singh, ADM B Lokeshor Sharma, AC to DC Arvind Hanglem, 3rd IRB CO S Hemanta, SDOs, SDCs, DLOs and staff of DC office, Thoubal among others.

The observance began with floral tributes to photographs of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General led by the DC.

Earlier, a 'Prabhat Pheri' was carried out from DCs Office Complex at 4 am and patriotic numbers played at various locations of the district.

Later, Har Ghar Thanga signature campaign was also held at the DC Office Complex, Thoubal.

Patriots' Day was also observed by Wisdom Foundation, Khangabok and Tek-cham Sports and Cultural Organisation (TSCO), Tekcham.

In connection with Patriots' Day observance, Ningombam Ideal Youth Club, Thoubal Ningombam organised a State Level Open Patriotic Song Competition 2024 cum 7th Meritorious Award Distribution Ceremony 2024 at Thoubal Ningthou Lainingthou Lairembi shed.

The competition was won by Kshetrimayum Rupashya Devi of Kakching with Maibam Preety Devi of Kachi Khul Mayai Leikai securing the second position and Sagolsem Krishibhani Devi of Uchiwa Lairak Achouba adjudged the third position winner.

The programme was attended by Sugnu MLA K Ranjit Singh, Khangabok MLA Surjakumar Okram and Thoubal Ningthou Lainingthou Lairembi selungba Ningombam Babu Singh as presidium members.

KAKCHING: District administration, Kakching observed the 133rd Patriots' Day at the DC Office Complex, here on Tuesday.

Kakching DC Rohit Anand alongside ADM Moirangthem Kapajit Singh and other DLOs paid floral tributes to the portraits of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General.

As part of the observance, a cleanliness drive was carried out within the premises of DC Office Complex, followed by a tree plantation drive.

A full dress rehearsal for the 78th Independence Day, 2024 was also conducted at the DCs Office Complex.

On the other hand, Patriots ' Day was observed in Tripura by Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura and Takhel Leima Tengbang Lup at Tarou Meitei Leikai, Agartala; Takhel Yaol Lup at Baidyar-dighi, Bishalgar sub-division and by Manipuri residents of Khowai Gournagar, Khowai Durganagar, Jalabasa Meitei village and Abhoynagar.

The programmes were marked by paying of floral tributes to photos of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General, poetry recitation and observance of two-minute silence in their honour.

BISHNUPUR: District administration observed Patriots' Day at the conference hall of the DC Office, Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur on Tuesday.

Bishnupur DC Lourembam Bikram accompanied by ADM H Bobby Sharma, SDOs, and DLOs led the gathering in a wreath-laying ceremony and paid floral tributes to the portraits of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General.

As a part of Patriots' Day, 'Prabhat Pheri' was carried out in Nambol, Bishnupur and Moirang sub-divisions.

Later, Har Ghar Tiranga signature campaign was also held at the Mini Secretariat, Complex.

JIRIBAM: 133rd Patriots' Day Observation Committee, Jiribam commemorated 133rd Patriots' Day at Ningshingkhun Bio-Diversity Park on Tuesday.

The observance was attended by Jiribam DC Krishna Kumar as chief guest, Senior SP M Pradip Singh as special guest and Pari Puri A thouba Ningsing Lup (PPANL) chairman O Gopendro Singh as president, while social worker N Budhachandra Singh, Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) president Elangbam Dewan Singh, All Jiribam United Clubs' Association (AJUCA) president Mutum Maipaksana Mangang, IPSA Jiribam Branch pr esident G Ibohal Sharma, Assam Manipuri Youth Association chief advisor Ksh Kundal Singh and HERICOUN, Jiribam president Senjam Sainik Kumar Singh were guests of honour.

A two-minute silence was observed during the function as mark of respect to the martyrs.
