All Manipur Nupi Marup demands swift action in Ukhrul violence

Imphal, February 13 2026: The All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) has vehemently condemned the escalating violence between Kuki and Tangkhul communities in Ukhrul district, demanding swift intervention from the State Government to halt further conflict and ensure justice.

In a press release issued today, the AMNM detailed a chain of disturbing events that unfolded starting the evening of February 7 in Litan, a town inhabited by both Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities.

A Tangkhul man, identified as AS Starlink, was reportedly abducted by Kuki youths, sparking initial tensions.

Violence intensified with several Tangkhul homes set ablaze and weapons fired, creating widespread panic among residents.

The AMNM appreciated the Deputy Chief Minister's peace efforts, but noted they were derailed when Kuki militants allegedly fired during talks.

The organisation slammed the central security forces deployed in the Litan area, accusing them of being "silent spectators" as homes burned and fear gripped the area.

The organisation also flagged a viral social media video purportedly showing armed Kuki militants transported in an Assam Rifles vehicle, urging the Chief Minister and Home Secretary to raise the matter with the Union Home Minister.

The AMNM has called for a "mass combing operation" to arrest perpetrators, alongside immediate relief from the Ukhul Deputy Commissioner - including CGI sheets and rehabilitation aid - for around 80 affected families left homeless.
