Imphal, October 12 2025:
The Initiative & Development Organisation Samurou (IDOS) and Mayai Lambi Apunba Lup have raised concern over the deplorable condition of the National Highway 137-A (Mayai Lambi).
In separate releases, IDOS and Mayai Lambi Apunba Lup said that the deteriorating condition of Mayai Lambi has caused immense inconveniences to the public and commuters.
The organisations highlighted that the numerous potholes and cracks on the road have created dangerous driving conditions, especially when filled with water during the rainy season, leading to multiple motor accidents.
Accusing the authorities of neglecting the Mayai Lambi for a long time, the organisations claimed that ongoing construction work of the road has been plagued by poor quality, negligence by contractors, and insufficient supervision by PWD engineers.
The organisations also pointed out that during the non-rainy periods, vehicles driving on the broken roads kick up thick layers of dust that cause respiratory problems and skin irritations for nearby residents, particularly the elderly and children.
Appealing to the authorities concerned to initiate repair works of Mayai Lambi at the earliest, IDOS warned of launching an intense stir if the road is not repaired before the Ningol Chakkouba Festival.
Mayai Lambi Apunba Lup also announced that to protect the commuters from frequent accidents and health hazards, Mayai Lambi will be blocked from the midnight of October 16 until proper repairs are made.
