AMSCON expresses disappointment over Union Budget omissions

Imphal, February 12 2026: The All Manipur Senior Citizens Confederation (AMSCON) has voiced its deep disappointment with the recent Union Budget presented in the Lok Sabha, citing a complete lack of welfare provisions for senior citizens.

During a press meet held today at the AMSCON office in Singjamei Chongtham Leikai, Confederation advisor B Sanamacha Sharma highlighted that none of the demands put forward by the All India Senior Citizens Confederation (AISCON) were included in the budget.

These demands included the restoration of train ticket concessions, an increase in the income tax limit and standard deduction, and a universal old age pension of Rs 3,000 in light of rising prices.

Sanamacha further lamented the budget's failure to address other critical issues, such as the removal of the 18% GST on medicines and medical treatments, and the inclusion of all senior citizens under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

He described these omissions as "very unfortunate" .

He urged the three Manipur MPs in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to raise these demands during the budget discussions.

He expressed hope that the Prime Minister and Finance Minister would consider at least some of the demands for the welfare of senior citizens who have contributed significantly to nation-building.

In addition to the budget concerns, AMSCON has appealed to hospital authorities in the State to ensure proper implementation of dedicated ticket counters for senior citizens, preventing younger individuals from using them and causing inconvenience to the elderly.

Dr RK Lenin, an AMSCON member who was also present at the press meet, emphasized the need for the Government to take action to provide free medicines and treatment facilities for age-related ailments.
