Assam Rifles honours fallen heroes

, Jun 11: Assam Rifles held a series of wreath-laying ceremonies to honour the memory of their fallen heroes who made supreme sacrifice in service of the Nation.
At the War Memorial, a solemn ceremony was organized for Nk/GD (Late) Jang Bahadur Mall of 4 Assam Riffes, who gave his life on 11 June 1956, during a faceoff with insurgents at Mao, Nagaland.
He laid down his life due to a bullet injury while performing Road Opening Party (ROP) duties.
Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and other ranks paid tribute to his supreme sacrifice with a wreath-laying and a motivational speech narrating his story, said a statement by the Assam Rifles.
The ceremony underscored the importance of remembering the bravery and dedication of those who serve, disregarding personal safety for the cause of the nation.
Simultaneously, at the Battalion Quarter Guard, a wreath-laying ceremony was held to honour No 4635 Subedar (Late) Lalruala Lushai of 5 Assam Rifles.
He sacrificed his life on 11 June 1956, during unprovoked Chinese aggression in Longju, Subansiri Division, NEFA (present-day Arunachal Pradesh).
His raw courage, extreme resolve, loyalty, and comradeship during the operation are etched in golden letters in the history of Assam Rifles.
Officers, JCOs, and other ranks paid tribute with a Guard of Honour, at Moreh, Tengnoupal, reaffirming their commitment to excellence and remembering the heroic legacy of Subedar Lalruala Lushai, which continues to inspire current and future generations of Assam Rifles.
In another solemn event at the War Memorial in Joupi, Chandel District, officers and soldiers of 17 Assam Rifles honoured Rifleman Mukesh Kumar, who valiantly sacrificed his life during an encounter with militants at Singjamei, Manipur, in 1998.The ceremony highlighted the bravery and unwavering dedication of Rifleman Mukesh Kumar, with officers, JCOs, and other ranks offering heartfelt salutes and wreaths.
This ceremony emphasized the importance of remembering and honouring the sacrifices made by soldiers like Rifleman Mukesh, whose courage and selflessness continue to inspire the armed forces.
