A Curtain Raiser of Tangkhul Women Pre-Centenary

Ukhrul, April 11 2012: With just a few days to go for the grand pre- centenary celebration of Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association Women Union and the 32nd Anniversary celebration of Alice Christian Hr.Sec School, the nodal project of the women union, Tangkhul women are taking no chances but leaving no stone unturned in physical arrangement starting from accommodation to the expected 2000 delegate to the finalization of stage at Mission ground Ukhrul.

The Women union is celebrating the Pre-Centenary celebration as a curtain raiser for 100th years celebration in 2017 .

In 1917 Alice Pettigrew, wife of the first Christian Missionary in Ukhrul, organized the first Women Christian Union of Manipur at Ukhrul.

The Union later became North East Baptist Association Manipur (of North East India) Women Union.

After Christianity takes its root in almost all the societies of North East India, the women society was decentralized paving for the formation of separate Christian women union of different communities/tribes.

In Ukhrul, which is considered as the seed bed of Christianity in Manipur, the name Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association Women Union was adopted.

The Pre-Centenary will be celebrated under the theme "Live and Grow".

The celebration will retrospect the growth of women in different aspects of life, not only of the Tangkhul society but of the Manipur, since the beginning of Christianity and the formation of women union.

Prominent Christian Minister from the US namely Rev.Dr.Steven C.Van Ostran Executive Minister of American Baptist Churches, Rocky mountain USA, Dr.Edwin Tegenfelt,M.D, Missionery of American to India, Ms.Kuinao Zimik, Patron of Alice Christian hr.Sec.School,USA in addition to host of Speakers from Manipur will speak.

The main topics of the three days celebration at Mission Ground are Approach to Holistic Education, Growth of life through education, Women in Ministry Today, and living a fulfilled life.

Cultural programs will also be taken up on 15th by different cultural groups to show the growth of Tangkhul women culturally, socially and spiritually.

Program is organized by Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association Women Union and hosted by Phungyo Baptist Church, Ukhrul.

Women delegates from every village of the District are expected to take part, in addition women representative of different tribes and communities in Manipur are also expected.

The event is going to be the biggest event of women in Ukhrul District.

The celebration, though primarily for the spiritual awakening of women, will touch different aspects of life of women.

Alice Christian hr.Sec School was established by Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association Women Union as self sustain project.

Today, the school has become one of the most popular school in Ukhrul District.

The school was primarily funded and sponsored in the initial stage from America through the initiative of Mrs.Kuinao Zimik, an Indian American.
