Imphal, March 10 2026:
The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (CJFD) has raised concerns over why the Chief Minister, Ministers, and MLAs of Manipur are allegedly reluctant to pressure the Central leadership into identifying illegal immigrants before proceeding with the census operation.
Addressing a function at Heirangoithong today, CJFD convenor Jeetendra Ningomba emphasised that including illegal immigrants in the population count would result in a fraudulent outcome, which would negatively impact the rights of genuine citizens.
He further alleged that illegal immigrants have been engaged in a violent campaign against the indigenous communities.
Reiterating the demand, he stressed that the census should only be conducted after identifying illegal immigrants.
Why the State's legislators have not taken action to address the issue before the census, he asked.
He cautioned that the Government must take full responsibility for any consequences if the census operation is carried out forcibly without resolving the issue of illegal immigrants.
