Training programme on natural farming held

A four-day training programme on "Natural Farming" under National Mission on Natural Farming commenced yesterday at the Conference Hall of College of Agriculture (CO A), Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
The inaugural function was attended by Prof Indira Sarangthem, Director of Instruction; Prof N Brajendra, Department of GPB; Prof Kh Ibohal Singh, Department of Entomology and Prof LK Mishra, Chairman, organizing committee as presidium members.
Prof LKMishra delivered the welcome address highlighting the framework of the training programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Indira Sarangthem highlighted the significance of conducting such a training programme and added that the knowledge gained by the participants should be disseminated to the farmers of the North East to foster sustainability practices as well as economic growth of the region.
Prof N Brajendra Singh said that both sustainability and natural farming are closely linked concepts aimed at creating agricultural systems which are environmentally friendly.
Prof Kh Ibohal Singh underscored the difference between organic and natural farming and also discussed the agro-chemical effect on soil.
Participants from various KVKs of North East, scientists from CAU and Farmer Master Trainers are participating in the training programme.
