Imphal, October 08 2026: A 3-day National seminar on "Democracy and Political Participation of the Tribal Peoples in North East India" is underway at the conference hall of the ICAR, Lamphelpat.

The seminar, organised by the Department of Political Science & Human Rights, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur and sponsored by the North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, Government of India, kicked off yesterday.

Retired MU Professor S Mangi Singh; Dr Homen Thangjam, Department of Political Science & Human Rights, IGNTU-RCM and Prof Ng Ngalengnam, Director, IGNTU-RCM attended & Autonomous Councils".

Two more technical sessions were held today.

Dr Soihiamlung Dangmei chaired the Technical Session 3, "Electoral Participation, Representation & Gender", and Grace Dear Kasar chaired the Technical Session 4, "Identity Conflicts, Marginalisation & Insurgency".

Eight resource persons presented papers.
