48 Handloom weavers' identity cards distributed at Chingtham

Thoubal, August 08 2026: In connection with the observance of National Handloom Day 2026, as many as 48 Handloom Weavers' Photo Identity Cards were distributed to weavers of Chingtham under Polling Station No 34/21 in Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency on Friday.

The distribution programme, organised by the Wangjing Tentha Block Congress Committee at Chingtham, was attended by former Minister Moirangthem Hemanta as the chief guest.

Wangjing Tentha Block Congress Committee president Sagoshem Gopeshwar, working president Thokchom Kunjakeshwar, social worker Konthoujam Priyodash and several eminent elders of Chingtham were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Moirangthem Hemanta said the distribution of weavers' identity cards would be extended to weavers in other polling stations of Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency.

He described handloom as not merely a source of livelihood but also a symbol of Manipur's pride, rich heritage and cultural identity.

He lauded the State's weavers for preserving the age-old traditions and craftsmanship passed down through generations, and stressed the need for collective support and encouragement to strengthen the sector.

Expressing his vision for the future, Hemanta said every household in Manipur should aspire to become a handloom production unit to generate sustainable employment and improve the socio-economic condition of the people, particularly women and rural families.
