Displaced MU students to file complaint against VC, police

Taking serious note over police threatening students of Manipur University who are taking shelter in relief camps set up at Heijigang Ema Keithel just opposite to the main gate of the university and other nearby areas following evacuation from the hostels on August 7 night and unfounded statements made by Vice-Chancellor of the University before media; students of the university have decided to file a complaint to the Central Government.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at Heijigang Ema Keithel, displaced girl students who are taking shelter in the relief camp said that a team of Manipur Police arrived at the camp on August 7 at around 11 pm and threatened to fire tear gas shells, mob bombs and detain all of them under NSA.
The displaced girl students also dismissed the statement made by the VC before media that students coming from far flung areas are being kept at guest houses for their safety, saying around 200 students are taking shelter in the camp and no one has received any kind of assistance from the university authority so far.
They also demanded suspension of the home guard personnel who kicked Thounaojam Premananda on his check leaving him seriously injured on August 6.Premananda is undergoing treatment at Imphal Hospital.
Stating that academic atmosphere in the university has greatly affected following the unwarranted act of the VC, the aggrieved students cautioned that they will resort to intense agitation if their demands are not addressed by the government and VC at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Manipur University Students; Union Revival Committee has demanded resignation of the university's Vice-Chancellor and Registrar over the present turmoil witnessing in the university.
