Heirok VDF personnel extend financial aid to family of deceased SPO

The personnel of the Special Police Officer (SPO)/Village Defence Force (VDF) on Monday extended monetary assistance amounting to Rs 1.38 lakh to the family of late Thokchom Manglem, an SPO personnel from Heirok who passed away in a tragic road accident on May 21.The financial assistance was handed over to the deceased's wife at their residence at Heirok Part-I Keithel Mamang during a condolence visit by members of the Heirok SPO (VDF).
Speaking on the occasion, Heirok SPO E-Coy Commander Khumanthem Gunadhoma stated that the assistance was raised through contributions from VDF personnel, with each member donating Rs 500 as part of a long-standing initiative to support the families of deceased colleagues.
He noted that the VDF fraternity has extended similar assistance on several occasions in the past whenever a VDF personnel passed away.
He further recalled that demands had repeatedly been placed before the Government to take concrete measures for the welfare and social security of VDF personnel and their families.
However, he expressed regret that no significant positive steps have been taken in this regard so far.
The visit was also attended by Thokchom Sanathoi, younger brother of Heirok MLA Dr Thokchom Radheshyam, along with several local residents who paid their respects to the bereaved family.
