Imphal, March 08 2025:
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) observed the International Women's Day on the theme of 'Accelerate action' at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Gate here on Saturday.
As part of the observance, AMWJU honoured women journalists of the state with simple gifts as a token of encouragement.
Speaking as the chief guest, 2MR Commandant Victoria Yengkhom said that she considers women journalists are part of the family, highlighting their role alongside women police personnel in maintaining law and order in the state.

Reflecting on the past, she noted that the number of women journalists and women in uniform was considerably low.
Although women in different fields often find it difficult to meet regularly, they provide support and encouragement to one another - something that men may not fully understand or appreciate, she remarked.
She applauded the rise in number of women journalists, while stressing the need for encouraging them.
She further noted that the women journalists present at the event embody a fearless and decisive spirit, urging them to uphold the highest standards of integrity to ensure quality output.
Victoria further stated that the difficulties faced by a woman are often shared by all women.
"So, there is a need to change the same to bring about positive changes in society," she said and urged the women journalists to engage in discussions and advocate for the formulation of relevant policies.
Stressing that women alone cannot achieve gender equality, she noted that both men and women need to work together in this endeavour, with men also playing a crucial role.
She then expressed hope that male journalists would participate in the observance from next year onward to support their female counterparts and also encouraged women journalists to foster healthy competition among themselves for further growth.
Presided over by AMWJU president Bijoy Kakchingtabam, the observance was also attended by EGM president Khogendra Khomdram as guest of honour.
