'Manipuri Sheireng-gee Numit' celebrated

Imphal, October 07 2025: Fiction & Poetry Club, Manipur celebrated 'Manipuri Sheireng-gee Numit' at the auditorium of State Central Library in Keishampat today.

'Manipuri Sheireng-gee Numit (Manipuri Poetry Day)' is celebrated every year on the day of Kartik (Mera gi Thanin), in honor of notable Manipuri poets and the rich literary tradition of the Manipuri language.

The celebration was graced by dignitaries, including Longjam Joychandra, president, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal; Nongmaithem Kirankumar, former Convenor, Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi; Prof Sh Shantibala, Principal, NG College; and Thoudam Netrajit, president, Fiction & Poetry Club, Manipur.

The event was marked by the offering of tributes to deceased Manipuri poets, releasing of the 23rd edition of 'MAPAO' journal, launching of Fiction & Poetry Club Manipur's website, and presentation of awards to two prominent poets- Yumnam Ibomcha and Lanbon Kabui.

A poem recitation session was also conducted wherein many renowned poets, including Chungkham Yashwanta, Birendrajit Naorem, Dilip Mayangbam, Moirangthem Rajen, Kshetri Rajen and Irungbam Deven read their poems.

Lenin Khumancha, secretary, Fiction & Poetry Club, Manipur was also present at the event.
