12th National Handloom Day observed at WSC Imphal

Imphal, August 07 2026:
The 12th National Handloom Day 2026 was observed at the Weavers' Service Centre, Porompat, Imphal on Friday, along with similar events held across the country.
As part of the programme, e-Pehchan Cards and Yarn Cards were distributed to weavers.
National Award-winning weavers were also felicitated with awards in recognition of their achievements.
Speaking on the occasion, HoO of WSC Imphal, Sarbeswar Das, said handloom products of the State play a major role in giving the region its identity in other parts of the country.
He noted that weavers from the State consistently win awards at the national level every year, which is a matter of pride for Manipur.
He stated that promoting handloom also significantly contributes to the growth of tourism.
Visitors should be encouraged to see and use local handloom products when they come to the State, he added.
Stressing that the Government is taking up various initiatives for weaver welfare, he urged weavers to avail the benefits of different schemes.
Sarbeswar Das assured that the department will continue to work for weavers at all times.
The event was attended by former GM of DIC, Imphal West L Dwijamani, Sant Kabir Awardee Manipur W Shaya Devi, and I/C Principal of Naorem Birahari College, Imphal East Dr Irom Kunjabati Devi, along with many weavers from different areas.
