Imphal, August 07 2025: The Joint Action Committee Against the Unnatural Death of Bashanti & Lanchenbi has raised questions over the Government's failure to provide the magisterial enquiry report concerning the death of the widow mother and daughter duo almost a year ago.

Notably, Adhikarimayum Bashanti and her four year old daughter Lanchenbi of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai in Imphal West were found dead together in a suspicious manner on a single bed on September 23, 2024.A Government order issued on October 23, 2024 had directed the magisterial enquiry report to be submitted within one month and to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the unnatural deaths of the mother-daughter duo, said a press release issued by N Shyama Devi, co-convenor of the JAC.

Saying that the report has not been presented even after 11 months, the JAC has sought the support of the public to stand firm against crimes on women and children and help deliver justice.
