NSU, Health Department observe World Food Safety Day

The Food Safety Administration, Directorate of Health Services, Manipur, in collaboration with National Sports University, Imphal, observed WorldFood Safety Day 2026 at the Multipurpose Hall, NSU, Khuman Lampak today.
The theme was 'From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food Everywhere'.
NSU Vice Chancellor, Daljit Singh Chawdhary; Scientist F, Microbial Resources Division, IBSD, Dr Indira Sarangthem; Dean, College of Food Technology, CAU, Dr Ng Iboyaima Singh; and Director of Health Services & Additional Food Safety Commissioner, Dr N Hemantakumar Singh attended as presidium members.
In his address, Daljit Singh said food poisoning and contamination cause numerous deaths globally and must be addressed urgently.
"Food safety protocols should be followed like the health hygiene protocols during Covid-19", he stated.
He noted that access to safe, nutritious food is a basic human right.
Citing WHO and FAO data, he said preventable food-related diseases cause high mortality and severely impact women and children.
He stressed strict safety protocol adherence and said educators and scientists have a major role in ensuring safe food for all.
The programme began with a walkathon inside the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and a World Food Safety Day pledge.
Prizes for a Spelling Bee competition were distributed.
Students of JJ School Montessori, Imphal also performed a Callisthenics Dance.
