Thoubal, July 06 2026:
Expressing concern over the challenges faced by students in recent years, the Thoubal District Congress Committee (TDCC) on Monday organised a press conference at Congress Bhavan, Thoubal Athokpam, in support of the nationwide 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' (Voice of Students) campaign launched by the Indian National Congress.
Addressing the media, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) General Secretary and Advocate Md Rabi Khan said the aspirations of students preparing for civil services and other competitive examinations, along with the dreams of their parents, have suffered serious setbacks in recent years.
He described the declining state of the education sector as deeply unfortunate.
Referring to the alleged NEET question paper leak and the subsequent re-examination, Rabi Khan said the incident caused immense hardship to students and their families.
He alleged that the uncertainty surrounding the examination subjected students to severe mental stress and, in some cases, had even led to suicides.
He further said repeated examination irregularities have damaged the careers of students and adversely affected the education sector.
Holding successive governments responsible for ensuring a fair and transparent examination system, he criticised the present government for allegedly failing to, take effective measures to prevent such incidents from recurring, adding that no concerned minister has come forward with a concrete assurance to the student community.
Rabi Khan said India's progress depends on empowering its youth through quality education and equal opportunities.
However, he alleged that repeated examination controversies and rising unemployment have weakened the confidence of young people.
He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched the 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' campaign to ensure that the voices and concerns of students reach every comer of the country.
He urged party workers and the public to carry the campaign's message to every district and village while working collectively to eliminate question paper leaks, and corruption affecting the education system.
Stressing that education is the foundation of national development, Rabi Khan said India can become a progressive and developed nation only by producing capable and well-educated students.
Alleging that the ruling government has not accorded adequate priority to the education sector, he appealed to the public to participate in Rahul Gandhi's campaign and support efforts to strengthen education and secure the future of the country's youth.
The press conference was attended by NSUI (M) president Joyson Khoho, Thoubal District Congress Committee president Yumnam Basanta.
former presidents and vice-presidents of the TDCC, key office bearers of the district committee, Mahila Congress leaders, Youth Congress members and party workers from various constituencies.
