State Handloom Expo kicks off

The inaugural function of State Handloom Expo (Hathkargha Mela) was held today at South Borak Complex ground in Binnakandi Part 2, Lakhipur in Cachar.
The expo is being organised in connection with the upcoming Durga Puja festival by the Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans Co-operative Society Ltd (AWAS).
The inaugural function was graced by Yenshembam Premchandra Meitei, Chairman(AWAS); Mutum Reena Singha, Chairperson, Manipuri Development Council, Govt of Assam and Deputy Handloom Officer Ng Elena as the presidium members among others.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting by the dignitaries and singing of the National Anthem.
A total of 60 stalls are being opened in the State Handloom Expo showcasing a wide range of handicrafts and handloom products.
Speaking as the chief guest, Mutum Reena Singha lauded the organisers of the expo as it gives a platform for the weavers who are making traditional handloom and handicraft items.
Calling upon all to visit the expo and support the weavers, Reena said such handloom expo helps in generating income for the weavers thereby promoting their products.
The other dignitaries while speaking at the occasion highlighted the importance of handloom expo as it promotes the weavers of the State giving a proper platform to showcase their products so as to enhance their income.
