Assam Rifles conducts rescue operation for flood victims

Imphal, July 05 2024:
Torrential rains and floods have once again disrupted normal life in Imphal valley.
The situation worsened after the banks of Iril, Imphal and Kongba rivers gave way, resulting in floods at Singjamei, Thonju, Canchipur and Manipur University.
Living up to their commitment as 'Sentinels of the North East', the Assam Rifles has been relentlessly carrying out flood relief under 'Operation JalRahat', said a release issued by HQ IGAR(S) .
As part of this operation, soldiers of Assam Rifles have assisted in plugging the breaches in Imphal, Kongba and Iril rivers.
Utilizing the boats available with them, the Assam Rifles have successfully evacuated over 1200 people who were stranded in areas inundated by waters flowing out of the rivers.
In addition, medical aid was provided in the affected areas.
The selfless actions of Assam Rifles were also witnessed during the floods caused by Cyclone Remal between May 28 and Jun 5, 2024.During this period, the Assam Rifles had evacuated over 6000 persons and were instrumental in distribution of aid material to include food, medicines and water.
In the past three days, over 200 soldiers of Assam Rifles have been committed on a daily basis to provide assistance during these difficult times.
The services of this Force, which has a close and old association with Manipur, has contributed towards prevention of further devastation in the State.
