Govt won't tolerate anti-natl activities on ILP: CM Ibobi

Imphal, June 05 2013: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has reiterated that the State government favours implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, but it would not tolerate any anti-national activity in the movement being spearheaded by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) .

He was addressing media persons on the current issue of ILP at Congress Bhavan here today.

Chief Minister Ibobi said that the government stands firm to thwart any anti-national activity and so the organizations involved in the demand of ILP should refrain from being anti-national.

"Preventing outsiders from visiting the state is against the Constitution and is an act of being anti-national so we should try to avoid it," he said.

He appealed to the volunteers to stop sending back non-locals who are coming to the State from the highways.

Chief Minister Ibobi further reiterated that the State Assembly has even taken a resolution for implementation of ILP in the State and the State government is pressuring the Centre on the matter.

The hill areas, which are about 90 percent of the total area of the State, are being protected by the Constitution under the provisions of Land Law passed in 1960 .

The Centre is also doing its best to safeguard the remaining areas in valley, the Chief Minister asserted.

He contended that Manipur is a part of the Indian Union and so the drive against non-local fellow Indians by the supporters of ILP is anti-national.

The State government would have appreciated the supporters if they had sent back illegal foreign immigrants instead of their fellow countrymen, Ibobi averred.

Chief Minister further lashed out at the ILP supporters for dragging in students in the movement, saying that educational institutions and hospitals were not affected even during World Wars.

The State government would not remain silent if the ILP supporters keep on organizing meetings in schools and colleges, he warned.

Sharing his experiences about the recent visit to Myanmar, Chief Minister said that the Myanmarese welcomed the Indian delegates very well and they expressed their desire to have good ties with India.

Moreover, the Indian delegates were overwhelmed to visit the Meetei Community in Mandalay.

The Meeteis over there are very much keen to visit the Govindajee Temple and even requested the State government to develop proper road and transport system between Manipur and Myanmar, he added.
