Arambai Tenggol greets Chess personality

Arambai Tenggol leader Korounganba Khuman and members greeted Soibam Mangijao Meitei, Joint Secretary of All India Chess Federation (AICF), at the latter's residence at Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai, Thoubal district today.
Soibam Mangijao has been appointed as the Joint Secretary of the AICF for the term 2024-27, said the organisation.
In a release, Arambai Tenggol stated that chess was once viewed in the State as a pastime that wasted time, with many parents discouraging children from playing the game.
However, through the dedication and sustained efforts of Mangijao Meitei, chess has gained recognition and appreciation for its relevance and value in Manipur.
Mangijao founded the Thoubal District Chess Association, and served as the president of Manipur Chess Development Association.
He is also a personality who has continuously supported Meitei's Scheduled Tribe demand, said the organisation.
Despite being diagnosed with lung cancer, Mangijao continues to work tirelessly for the welfare of the State and its people, the release said.
The organisation expressed pride in his achievements, prayed for his speedy recovery and hoped that he would continue to serve society, while also calling for more such dedicated individuals to emerge in the future.
