The Komrem Students' Union, Delhi (KSUD) has expressed deep grief and outrage over the killing of a young Manipuri student, Joseph Serto, reportedly by senior students of NERIM College in Guwahati Assam.
Calling the incident "an appalling act that has shaken the conscience of the nation", the Union condemned the brutal assault and demanded swift justice.
In a strongly worded statement, the Union stressed that educational institutions must remain safe spaces for learning and growth, warning that such violence on campus reflects grave lapses in oversight, discipline, and care.
"We refuse to remain silent while justice is denied.
This act of violence has left us all in mourning," the statement read.
The Union demanded urgent action from the Government of Assam, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Minority Affairs, and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes.
The Union also called for a transparent judicial inquiry, immediate arrest of perpetrators, and strict accountability of the school administration for lapses in supervision and antiragging enforcement.
The Union further appealed for protection, legal assistance, and timely compensation for the victim's family, while urging the media, civil society, and concerned citizens to stand with the bereaved and push for systemic reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
