Electoral roll Observer reviews SIR progress in Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, August 02 2026:
Electoral Roll Observer Mohan Lal Meena, Secretary (Lok Ayukta/Commission of Enquiry), Government of Manipur, on Sunday visited Kangpokpi district to review the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and assess the preparedness of the district election machinery.
He was accompanied by District Election Officer (DEO) and Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, along with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) .
During the meeting, Meena briefed the participants on the ongoing SIR process and the framework laid down by the Election Commission of India for electoral roll revision.
He also invited suggestions, complaints and grievances from representatives of political parties.
The representatives raised several issues, including submission of forms, difficulties faced by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in obtaining necessary documents due to their inability to travel, and requirements related to parental certificates.
The Observer directed the Deputy Commissioner to examine the issues in detail.
Concerns raised by officials, election staff and political parties were noted and would be forwarded to the higher authorities for appropriate action, officials said.
Meena also stressed the need for effective coordination between Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs), and urged Electoral Registration Officers to discharge their responsibilities with utmost diligence and ensure thoroughness throughout the revision process.
Emphasising the importance of public awareness, he encouraged officials to actively engage with the public and strengthen the overall revision process.
As per the schedule, the period for filing claims and objections is from July 5 to August 4, while the notice and disposal of claims and objections will continue from July 5 to September 2.The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on September 6, 2026 .
The meeting was attended by the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) of the district; political parties functioning within the district, Election staff among others.
