10-day skill development training programme on pineapple leaf fibre concludes at KVK Thoubal

Thoubal, March 02 2026:
A 10-day skill development training programme on "Extraction, Processing, Value Addition & Product Development from Pineapple Leaf Fibre", concluded today at the training hall of KVK Thoubal.
The training programme which commenced on February 20, 2026, was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Thoubal, equipping participants with practical knowledge and technical skills to utilise pineapple leaf fibre for sustainable livelihood generation.
The valedictory function was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal, Yumnam Robita as chief guest; KVK Thoubal, Head in-charge and Senior Scientist Dr Kh Premlata Devi as functional president; and Handlooms & Textiles, Manipur, Director Elangbam Jeeten Singh as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Thoubal Yumnam Robita lauded the initiative, stating that producing yam from pineapple leaves -which have long remained unused and often discarded -is a commendable step towards enhancing the livelihood and economic prospects of the state.
She emphasised the need for collective efforts among various departments such as horticulture, agriculture, handlooms and textiles to further develop the sector and scale up production.
She also urged stakeholders to focus on producing more value-added products with the potential for export beyond the state.
As part of the closing ceremony, participating farmers of the Farmers' Production Company Limited under the KVK Thoubal, were distributed certificates in recognition of their successful completion of the training programme.
