TDC decides to repair NH-37, says 'no, thank you' to BRO

Imphal, September 01 2012: Unhappy over the slow progress of Border Road Organisation (BRO) in the repairing NH 37, Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC), Manipur has decided to repair the National highway on its own.

Accordingly, TDC has begun stocking stone chips at Langjing Achouba Truck Parking.

A team of mediapersons along with some members of TDC today visited the truck parking site at Langjing and saw many trucks loaded with stone chips preparing to head for Jiribam.

It may be noted here that TDC had also taken up similar initiative in 2010 .

After the visit, talking to mediapersons at its MG Avenue office, TDC President H Ranjit informed that BRO had requested the state government to stop plying of vehicles along the highway from September 3 to 7 stating that vehicles plying hamper the repairing works.

Slamming down on the request of BRO, Ranjit asserted that BRO is trying to stop vehicles from plying along NH 37 in the name of repairing work.

"There is no question of them (BRO) completing the repairing work in five days.

It is just a mere excuse of BRO to spend their time leisurely without repairing the highway", Ranjit alleged, adding that if BRO is committed enough to repairing the highway, then they could do it after the stranded goods laden left Jiribam.

"The truth is that BRO would never be able to improve the present deplorable condition of the highway even after giving them half a month's time.

So, the State government should not listen to such lame excuses but take proactive action against the BRO to do its job", Ranjit said.

Ranjit also alleged that BRO has been stalling its work over construction two diversion bridges along the National Highway.

In fact, besides the two bridges, all other bridges along the highway are around 20 to 30 years old, he pointed out.

Meanwhile, another bridge located near Nung Dalan reportedly broke down yesterday due to which transporters have no option but to cross the bridge using felt trees.

Keeping in mind of the worsening condition of the, Ranjit appealed to the state government to ensure speeding up repairing work of the highway and rebuild all the old bridges.
