Entrepreneurship development programme ends

Imphal, August 31 2026: The week-long Entrepreneurship Development Programme organised by the Planning Department, Government of Manipur under Start Up Manipur 2.0 and Chief Minister's Entrepreneurship Support Scheme (CMESS) concluded at City Convention Centre, Konung Lampak, Imphal today.

Ahanthem Subhash, Director, Institutional Finance; RK Radhesana, Director, Planning Department; Dr Th Dhabali, Chairman and Managing Director of Babina Group; and Dr Yumnam Jayanta, Executive Director of NIELIT, attended the closing function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Around 730 selected beneficiaries under CMESS participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Ahanthem Subhash said entrepreneurship is crucial for a small state like Manipur which has limited resources and dependence on Government jobs alone will not help.

He said the State has talented and hardworking youth with traditional skills which can be converted into business ventures.

The trainees should now focus on preparing projects, mobilising resources and personal capital and coordinating with banks.

He assured that beneficiaries who completed the training will not face difficulty in getting loans as loans are covered under credit guarantee scheme and banks need not fear NPA.

Stating that the State has started monitoring banks under CMESS, he said three banks which did not disburse a single loan in 2025-26 will not get State deposits and existing deposits will be withdrawn.

Banks should not reject applications without reason and should not keep them pending, he said, advising loanees to be treated as potential customers.

He also advised entrepreneurs not to borrow more than required to avoid EMI burden, to inculcate a habit of timely repayment and not to mix business and personal finance.
