Ukhrul, January 30 2025:
The Tangkhul Leisak Long (TLL) Trade Council, Ukhrul has unanimously resolved to dishonour the TNL order to recall notifications served to the Vishal Mega Mart, Ukhrul to remove the selling of stationery items from the shop.
In this connection, TLL held a press conference at TLL office Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
The Vice President of TLL Aran Chihui stated that stationery items were included in the classified enlisted local items that were permitted to trade only to the local persons of the district.
Aran said, TLL has conveyed to the Tangkhul Naga Long explaining the reasons for removing stationery items from Vishal Mart.
Vishal Mart is a private company shopping mall owned by non locals, whereas stationery items are permitted to only local persons.
And this practice has been going on for more than 20 years.
Local items were basically identified and allotted to locals aimed to provide self employment to the local community in order to venture business activities as trade and commerce is the backbone to grow our economy.
Further to avoid the manipulative marketing strategies in the town by nonlocal businessmen as the identified local items are our basic needs.
According to Aran, at least 21 items are reserved for local businessmen to prosper and to compete in business and trade related activities with other businessmen.
Aran also mentioned that no trade permits were issued to any local persons, and were given the same privilege to all interested persons.
And as a part of promoting local business, TLL is organising the Wednesday market availing goods at the reduced prices and to know the importance of circulating coins in the local market to stop the conventional practice of giving sweets or other instead of coins to the customers, said Aran.
Meanwhile TLL president Ramyo Raingam said TLL has no ill feeling to non local businessmen but have approached the big businessmen of town to give some space for the locals to flourish business together.
