Imphal, October 29 2025:
Volunteers of the Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) paid a surprise inspection visit at Dhanamanjuri Community College (DMCC) yesterday and flagged several issues at the institution.
According to a press release, the SSUM team had gone to meet Nodal Officer Professor L Hemchandra Singh, however, he was reportedly not present at the college.
After meeting with the teachers of DMCC, the SSUM team was allegedly told that Professor L Hemchandra Singh had been absent for many months.
Inspecting the labs and the "major machines" at the college, SSUM said that the equipment-to-student ratio is inadequate.
Additionally, it claimed that student enrolment numbers have exceeded the intake capacity of the college as per the 2025-26 prospectus.
Saying that this has posed various challenges to the students, including shorter/inadequate practical hours, SSUM has accused Professor L Hemchandra Singh of turning the college into a certificate minting shop.
According to some teachers, the machines procured for Food Processing Technology were not only suitable for training but also for large scale production.
Prior to 2020, the former Nodal Officer allowed students to make food products under the "Earn while learn" scheme.
The products of the food lab were sold at a food outlet set up near the college gate.
These products gained a lot of popularity and demand and it also allowed underprivileged students to earn some money by working in the food lab.
However, such productive and income generating activities have ceased altogether, said SSUM .
