Dr Loken blasts Government over 'Party-first' approach amidst Manipur crisis

Imphal, March 29 2026: Dr Kwairakpam Loken, former MLA for Sagolband AC, has expressed disappointment with the current Government, stating it appears to be a regime existing merely for the benefit ofthe BJP party.

Speaking at a Youth Interaction programme organised by the Sagolband Youth Congress Committee in Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai, Dr Loken highlighted the severe difficulties the State has faced during the three-year conflict.

He criticized the two-month-old Government for failing to resettle internally displaced persons (IDPs), a key public desire.

Dr Loken questioned how long the public should tolerate a Government that prioritizes party interests and temporary compromises over substantive action.

Regarding the census, he noted the controversy surrounding the 2011 census implementation and the postponement of the 2021 census due to the COV1D-19 pandemic.

Given the current state of affairs, he questioned the feasibility of conducting a census now.

He dismissed the Chief Minister's proposed Socio-Economic Review (SIR) as impractical now, flagged dubious new villages in records, and questioned hill district administration efficacy.

He asserted that a proper census is impossible without settling IDPs arid identifying outsiders, suggesting an allparty meeting with the Ministry is necessary to address this.

Free movement on national highways remains blocked, he said, likening Manipur to a "giant relief camp" .

Dr Loken urged the Government to snap out of its slumber, engage with CSOs and political parties, alert the Centre, and push for a massive economic bailout package to revive the State's fortunes.
