Security Arrangements for SAG

Guwahati, January 28 2016: One of the most effective and comprehensive security covers are being laid out for the upcoming 12th South Asian Games, 2016 to be held in Guwahati and Shillong from February 5th to 16th.The organisers are planning to knit together a foolproof security arrangement for the entire event.

From central armed police force and Assam Police, 5,110 armed police personnel and 6, 537 unarmed police personnel of the state will be deployed in Guwahati to ensure that the Games are conducted smoothly and in a peaceful manner.

Likewise, adequate security measures are being put in place and both armed and unarmed security personnel will be deployed in Shillong as well.

Though Central forces will be part of the security arrangements, they will work under the overall control and command of the state police in both the states of Assam and Meghalaya.

So in Guwahati, security for the Games will be the responsibility of Assam police; while in Shillong, it will be the responsibility of Meghalaya police.

The ultimate responsibility of security in both the host cities has been entrusted with the DGPs of the respective states.

Multi-layered security covers are being put in place in all the venues to ensure security.

Even protection from the air will be provided by the Air Force and the Army Air Defence Unit.

Right from the airport to the hotels and then to the venues, a foolproof security plan has already been prepared.

Entire routes along which participants will move will be sanitised and escorts for each vehicle will be provided.

In the hotels, there will be police control rooms which will be manned by senior police officials and armed personnel.

There will also be Quick Reaction Teams at vantage points at the entire city to prevent any untoward incident.

In addition to this, Army will also be on the standby mode.

Speaking about the entire security preparedness, Brig.

Abani Pait, Head of Security FA, Organising Committee � 12th South Asian Games, 2016 (OC-SAG), says, "At the moment, we don't have any threat from any front.

But we are not taking any chances as we can't be complacent.

Every precaution is being taken and a complete security arrangement has been planned meticulously for the conduct of the Games.

We will ensure that all the participants and visitors go back to their homes with happy memories about Assam and Meghalaya" .

Praising the efforts of Assam Police and Meghalaya police, Brig.

Pait adds, "The Police of both the states are working very hard, and we are confident that they will do a wonderful job" .
