Agriculture Director clarifies on Moirang Incident

The Directorate of Agriculture has clarified the incident involving a truck carrying fertilizer that was apprehended by members of the public at Moirang yesterday.
A media briefing in this regard was held today at the office of the Director of Agriculture, Sanjenthong, Imphal East, by Peter Salam, Director of Agriculture.
Briefing the media, Peter Salam stated that a Tata truck carrying fertilizer was intercepted by the public at Moirang on suspicion of unauthorized transportation.
The truck, reportedly associated with Agro-Tech Solutions, was found carrying approximately 600 bags of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP), commonly known as Diamond, which had been transported from Bihar.
Upon investigation, it was found that Agro-Tech Solutions is neither an authorized nor a registered dealer permitted to transport or distribute fertilizers within the State.
The Department has taken serious note of the incident, which is reported to be the first of its kind in the State.
Peter Salam further informed that the Department is initiating necessary actions against all concerned parties, including the supplier and recipient, under the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act and the Fertilizer (Control) Order.
Strict measures will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
Regarding fertilizer availability, the Director stated that in preparation for the upcoming Kharif season, the Department had distributed around 1,10,000 bags of fertilizers during the previous year.
Additionally, about 1,80,000 bags were distributed to farmers across the State.
At present, around 1,00,000 bags of fertilizers are available in departmental godowns.
The Department is also planning to procure an additional 70,000 to 80,000 bags over the next three to four months.
To facilitate easy access for farmers, around 150 distribution points have been set up across the State, along with door-to-door distribution initiatives.
The Department has assured that adequate quantities of fertilizers will be made available to all farmers for the upcoming Kharif season.
