Training on mushroom cultivation and beekeeping held at Serou

Kakching, February 27 2026:
A one-day training programme on "Mushroom Cultivation and Beekeeping (Apiculture)" was conducted at Serou Mayai Leikai Community Hall on Friday as part of livelihood restoration efforts for rehabilitated Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) .
The training program was organised by the District Officer, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Thoubal, in collaboration with the Sub-Divisional Officer, Waikhong, Kakching District.
Arvind Hanglem, SDO Waikhong attended the programme as chief guest; while Kh Malemnganba Meitei, District Officer (Horticulture and Soil Conservation), Thoubal, graced the occasion as functional president.
Supreme Thongam, BO, DC Office Kakching, attended as guest of honour.
Akoijam Ratankumar Singh, Senior Scientist at ICAR, delivered a session on mushroom cultivation, while P Bhumika, Assistant Professor at Central Agricultural University, spoke on beekeeping as resource persons.
Addressing the gathering, Arvind Hanglem spoke on the importance of training and skill development in ensuring sustainable livelihoods, citing the example of an Internally Displaced Person.
He also highlighted the need for collaboration among various line departments to effectively implement government schemes and ensure that benefits reach the people.
Supreme Thongam, highlighted the initiative of the District Administration Kakching to ensure that every department reaches out with its schemes to every nook and comer of the district, with special focus on supporting the general public and IDPs to improve their livelihoods.
He further informed that logistic support would be extended for the purchase of mushroom spawn and necessary assistance will be provided to those interested in taking up mushroom cultivation as a follow-up to the training.
Kh Malemnganba Meitei gave detailed information regarding various government schemes available to support individuals interested in mushroom cultivation and beekeeping.
