Public awareness campaign on river conservation conducted

A public awareness campaign focussing on river conservation was held simultaneously at four different locations on the banks of Nambul river today.
Organised under the aegis of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with the Ministry of Jal Shakti, National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD), the campaign featured various activities such as yoga sessions, river cleaning drives, and a spot painting competition under the theme, "Save Rivers".
As per a release issued by the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, the campaign at Keishamthong organised by the Sana Janmasthan Club, Keishamthong and the Nambul River Development Committee included a yoga session and a spot painting competition.
Similar yoga sessions and spot painting competitions were also organised at Iroisemba Irong Laipham, Heiranggoithong Maibam Leikai and Samushang and Naoremthong Khulem Leikai.
Nambul River Protection Committee and Eroishemba Youth Development Club organised the Iroishemba event while Nambul Turel Kanba Lup, Heiranggoithong Maibam Leikai and Star Volunteers Corps (SVC), Awang Maibam Leikai organised the Maibam Leikai sessions.
The Samushang event was organised by the Lakhsh Pioneer Committee and Brilliant Club.
At the event, Thounaojam Alexander Singh, Development Officer, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, emphasized the critical role of river conservation and the urgent need to protect water resources for future generations.
Highlighting the objectives of the campaign, he stated that the Directorate has been actively organising cleaning drives, awareness campaigns, and collaborative efforts with local organisations to safeguard the health of rivers in Manipur.
He also urged the citizens to adopt sustainable practices to prevent pollution and degradation of river ecosystems.
Later, prize distribution ceremonies for the winners of the painting competition were also held simultaneously at the four locations.
