Kakching, May 26 2024:
The unauthorised construction of an RCC bridge over the Manipur river near K Molnom village in Chandel district under the jurisdiction of Sugnu police station has been put on hold by state government officials after spot inspection of the bridge construction on Sunday.
Subsequent to recent publication of reports of construction of the said RCC bridge, a combined team of police, 37 Assam Rifles and BSF which included Chandel additional SP Chamna Anal, Waikhong police station OC inspector Zakaur Rahaman, Kakching district police commando inspector Palung and Chakpikarong SDO Md Tajaudhin tried to reach the area on Saturday.
The police team, however, was not allowed to access the construction site by Kuki womenfolk as logs and trees were found blockading the road, consequently forcing the team to return in the evening.
On Sunday too, Kuki womenfolk initially resisted attempt by the team to re-enter the construction but finally allowed to proceed around 4:30 pm after repeated warnings followed by negotiation.
At the site, the officials found six bases of the bridge already completed and directed the locals not to construct the bridge till formal approval from the government.
As villagers upheld the advice'the police team returned from the area the same day.
