Imphal, June 25 2026:
A Men's Mental Health Awareness Programme under the theme "Breaking the Silence Building Stronger Minds" was held today at the Science PG Block, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal.
Organised by RE 650 Club Manipur with National Health Mission Manipur, Dhanamanjuri University Students' Union, and DM Science NSS Units 1 & 2, supported by the State Tele-MANAS Cell, Manipur, the programme saw DMU Registrar Dr RK Joteen Singh as chief guest and retired Sr Psychiatrist Dr Haobijam Angomcha Singh as guest of honour.
RE 650 Club president Malemnganba Lourembam and DMUSU president Irom Dimocha were presidium members.
Dr Joteen Singh stressed the timeliness of mental health awareness, noting academic pressure fuels illness and urging empathy and mutual support.
Dr Haobijam Angomcha highlighted rising suicide cases linked to socioeconomic stress and law-and-order issues in Manipur, adding that postCovid disruptions and conflict-related displacement have worsened mental health among students.
He noted societal expectations force men to suppress emotions, leading to untreated illness, and pointed to a shortage of beds and mental health professionals in hospitals.
Malemnganba Lourembam said the club extends beyond biking to social service, adding that financial strain and unspoken struggles contribute to men's mental health challenges.
Resource persons Aribam Linthoi Devi, Counsellor, State Tele-MANAS Cell, and Aribam Gulson Sharma, Clinical Psychologist, DMHP Bishnupur, also addressed the gathering.
